Furonotani, Iya Hot Spring

Iya, where the defeated Taira clan fled at the end of the 12th century.
Iya is known as the Tibet of Japan for the rugged, mystical majesty of its mountains.

Warriors from the powerful Taira clan, who hid in Iya after their defeat in the Genpei War, are said to have healed their wounds in the valley's many thermal baths.
Hot spring pools were once so numerous, locals referred to the gorge as Furonotani, the Valley of Baths.

Free-flowing Natural Hot Spring Straight from the Source
Mineral deposits make the water look cloudy, proof that it flows directly from a natural hot spring.

The open-air baths jut into the river, and the murmur of water provides soothing music.
Relax blissfully into the warm water as tiny bubbles cloak your skin like fine champagne.
